exhibitions
The Curiosity Cabinet of Knitting Stitches. I will present my new show at Prick Your Finger, Bethnal Green, London, in February 2013; the Private View is on Friday, 15 February.
The Curiosity Cabinet of Knitting Stitches tries to give a voice to some of the more esoteric knitting stitches, by presenting a collection of knitted swatches as a natural history collection of yore. Similar to a curiosity cabinet, the collection of swatches will be presented in categories and enable the viewer to examine them up close, thus providing a sense of wonder and enlightenment. The exhibition will be accompagnied by a series of short workshops, encouraging knitters to try some of these techniques themselves.
talks
Late June 2012, I presented The Visible Mending Programme at Mend*RS, the first mending research symposium in the UK.
In September 2012, I presented a paper on The Curiosity Cabinet of Knitting Stitches at the In The Loop 3 conference in Winchester.
Hi There,
Ii wanted to mention your work and blog on my blog, would it be okay to use and, credit accordingly, the photograph of darned scandinavian gloves from your darning class?
I really like your ideas about repair, I particularly love hand work and repaired clothing which I come across through my own work all the time, its so pleasing, feeling the history in the garment, which is in a way, my job – creating a personal history out of a set of clothes for a character.
