Below is a showcase of some of my work:
A private commission of a cardigan that already had some visible mends
Vintage Welsh blankets visibly mended with Shetland wool
A collaboration with Wolf & Gypsy Vintage boutique, Brighton
A commission from the Knitting & Crochet Guild
A repair commission of a jumper with high emotional value
Multiple repairs on a cashmere cardigan, using sympathetic yet contrasting wool
Vintage cardigan commission, repaired with vintage wool
I am so pleased to have come across your visible mending. I love the idea of a garment giving away some of its life story the way old houses do. The idea’s not made it to my part of the world (Warwickshire) that I know about, but I hope to be assertive enough to try it out in public
Tom, I stumbled across your work via Instagram. Beautiful! Now I search through my house for something to start mending. Greetings from Germany.
I would like to know if you have a visible mending service.
It is about a very old black cardigan in wool which I like very much.
I don’t know how to knit so I ‘m a little bit afraid to repair it by myself.
Thank you for your answer.
Hi Ariane, I do have a mending service. You can email me on tomofholland AT gmail DOT com. Please include some pictures. Best, Tom
Very beautiful work; thank you for continuing a tradition that my mother Continued so well, but I fear I have not done. Judith
Absolutely beautiful and inspiring work. Seeing various visible mending examples has inspired me to practice some techniques so I can try and mend 3 of my gorgeous cashmere jumpers in a way that doesn’t hide the damage, but rather highlights how much love I have for my existing clothes! Jen
Beautiful work. As I’m sure you’re how you are part of a artisan movement for this visible repair work. I find it touching as I also think of the practice of Kintsugi. Repairing ceramic with gold. From wikipedia: As its philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. For me also, I’m so used to interacting with another women when its about knitting or repairing. Always great to see a different prospective. I wasn’t planning to write so much 🙂 Great work. Looking forward in cruising through your blog. 🙂
Excellent repair work – I am inspired!
Is there any way I can get your Crofter Mitten pattern – no longer available on Ravelry?
The pattern is no longer available I’m afraid.
